The Magic of Crystals Healing

I have been working with crystals all my life both for healing and scrying. I instinctively wear one myself, intuitively place several on a client’s birth chart - or on a client if I was seeing them face to face, or I hold one for a few moments to energise it and then send it wherever it is needed. My home always has crystals around because they feel good to me, and many are programmed to help other people, or the world. But it wasn’t until I wrote The Crystal Bible that I appreciated quite how many crystals there are, and the enormous range of possibilities they encompass. Researching Crystal Prescriptions and The Crystal Healing Pack took me back to the use of gemstones for healing in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and beyond. For my M.A. in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology I tracked the origins of the use of crystals with a horoscope over two thousand years ago. It truly is an ancient science and has led me to looking at the history of birthstones, which link my twin passions of crystals and astrology, in much greater depth.

Crystals are objects of beauty and power. They can attract a soulmate; protect you, your car and your home; energise or relax, and heal everyday ailments. Crystals cleanse and invigorate the energies in your home and workplace, and they can even change your future. I’d like to share with you some crystals that I find particularly useful, many of these are old favourites but there are one or two new ones too. Several of them can be found in The Crystal Healing Pack in which I share crystal healing techniques using twelve master healers that form an excellent ‘first aid’ kit for every level of your being.

Good vibrations

If you are surrounded by good vibrations your health and wellbeing are assured and crystals have always been revered for putting out good vibes. I wear a beautiful piece of Shattuckite and Ajoite. This stone protects against subtle ill-wishing, connects me to higher levels of being, and offsets the effects of mobile phone and Tetra masts as well as computers. If you, like me, are sensitive to mobile phone emanations, then taping a piece of Black Tourmaline or Smoky Quartz (which is in the Crystal Healing Pack) onto the phone works wonders as it re-integrates your auric field. Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz and Amethyst (also in the pack) are excellent for turning back ill-wishing or curses and are highly protective when worn in a spiral around the neck – and, traditionally, Amethyst has the added attraction of warding off inebriation. If you want to keep your energy clear at all times, a Quartz crystal can be used to ‘comb’ all around your body about a foot out. It absorbs negative energy, repairs weak spots in your biomagnetic field, and re-energies your whole body.

A Labradorite crystal (included in Crystal Healing) with its unexpected scintillating flash of blue is a wonderful energy protector that also pulls in spiritual power. It is an excellent stone for therapists and those who work with other people as it enhances intuition whilst preventing taking on other people’s problems or negative thoughts or energy.

I believe that intuitively choosing a crystal is the best way of all of selecting exactly the right stone. I keep a selection cleansed and ready to wear. Each morning I look casually at them, if one attracts my attention, I wear it. And feel better for so doing. You could do the same with the twelve master healers in the Crystal Healing Pack.

If you feel stressed out and need to relax, lying with the stones from the pack on your chakras does the trick. It cleanses and re-energizes each chakra, balancing them; helping you to relax and bringing about a sense of well being and good health.

Healing the heart

Following the break up of a 20 year relationship a few years, my heart felt somewhat battered and the crystal I found most soothing was Rose Quartz. In a channelled message of hope and healing I was told not to let bitterness enter my heart chakra. Rose Quartz gently melted the resentment I was feeling and healed the abuse of trust, lifting away the bitterness. For many months I wore a protective Rose Quartz pendant over my heart and slept with a piece under my pillow to protect my dreams. I was able to use it to send forgiveness in a ritual that I included in the Crystal Healing Pack because, with so many relationships breaking up, people need help to do this.

To heal further, in meditation I would travel the whorls and labyrinths of Rhodochrosite as I attuned the divine love at its heart. I also used Rose Quartz in a ritual to take back my heart from the careless hands to which it had been entrusted. When my heart felt whole again, I used the Green Aventurine and Rose Quartz from the pack to reactivate my higher heart chakra, the place of compassion and unconditional love.

Rose Quartz is also the stone to use if you want to attract more love into your life. Place the largest piece you can find by your bed, and put one in the relationship corner of your house too – this is the farthest right corner from the front door. If you can find a crystal that has two equal sized crystals side by side on a common base place this here too. Many Candle Quartzes can be found in twin formations that spring from a joint base and they are excellent for this purpose as they symbolise mutual support and loving interdependence. It will attract a twinflame into your life: a twinflame being a soulmate without the karma and without the hassle. Something we all need in our life!

Combating energy vampires

It is all too easy to lose energy to other people without really knowing why, or even that it has occurred. The main symptom is a feeling of weariness or slight depression, and very low energy. I used to think that this leaching happened through the solar plexus but became aware that it happens to a greater extent through the spleen chakra located about a hand’s breadth beneath the left armpit. If you get a nagging pain there, or feel a tugging, then an energy vampire is at work. This may be a family member, partner or friend, client or work colleague. Fortunately the antidote is simple. Tape a Green Aventurine or, if you are lucky enough to find one, a light green Aura Quartz crystal over the chakra, or wear one on a long chain so that it reaches to the end of your breastbone.

Living in a safe space

Crystals are an excellent way to ensure that you are in a good space. Unfortunately these days most of us are bombarded with unseen electromagnetic radiation, to which many people are sensitive. I live near an electricity sub-station, not my first choice of location as I’m all too aware of the potentially health depleting effects – although I have turned this around and affirm that it will energise and realign me. As soon as moved in, I gridded the whole garden with pieces of Black Tourmaline, positioning one at each corner. I then placed Amazonite, Amethyst clusters and Smoky Quartz points on the windowsills (with the points pointing away from the house to deflect the energy). The house feels clear and, on dowsing, registers no averse electromagnetic emissions. These stones are equally effective for any ‘bad vibes’ that may be affecting your home or workplace. My computer is surrounded with Fluorite and Lepidolite to further protect my energy but you could use the Smoky Quartz, Sodalite or Amethyst from the pack for this.

Changing your life

And finally, if you want to change your life, find yourself one of the new Shift Crystals. These amazing, high-energy stones formed from Quartz that was laid down on Calcite. The Calcite then dissolved away leaving fissures and caverns studded with beautiful crystals. When one was first put into my hand, I simply could not let go. For years I have used a visualisation of travelling into a crystal cave when leading meditations to find your soul purpose. Now that crystal cave was in my hand and I could feel all my old programming dropping away and the energies quite literally shifting as I attuned to my purpose. It was a moment for which I had been preparing for over a year. Naturally I took this new friend home, and I sit with it every night. I can feel my life changing as I write.

Choosing a Crystal Healing Stone

The crystal that speaks to you is the one for you. Don’t be fooled by bright, shiny and big. These are not necessarily the most effective, although beautiful crystals such as those recommended here can work wonders. Small, misshapen and less attractive crystals often have the same power – and cost a great deal less. When you visit a crystal shop, notice which crystal catches your eye first. It will probably be the one for you. If you are looking for a specific crystal, plunge your hand into a tub and the one that sticks to your hand has your name on it. Take it home, run it under the tap to cleanse its energies, and then hold it in both hands and programme it to respond to you by dedicating it to your specific purpose.

Depressed

Beautiful pink Kunzite is an excellent stone for depression as it actually contains small amounts of lithium, (used in conventional psychiatric medicine). Kunzite lifts the spirits, releases emotional baggage and removes obstacles to your path. Place in your pocket and handle frequently, or make a gem elixir: place the crystal in a glass bowl in spring water and leave in the sun for l2 hours. Bottle and sip frequently.

Lonely

Stressed

Crystals make wonderful palm stones to be held whenever you are stressed. Fluorite is particularly effective as it not only relieves mental stress and helps you to think more clearly, but it also protects against computer and other electro-magnetic sources of stress – leave yours on the computer when you need both hands for your work and you will see an immediate difference in how you cope.

Uninspired/Unmotivated

If you feel uninspired try wearing a sunny Topaz. It sheds golden light on your purpose and inspires limitless possibilities, your motivation gets a kick-start whenever this powerful crystal is near.

Impoverished/Poor

Abundance is a state of mind. It connects you to a constant flow of nourishment, support and creativity. Place an abundant Citrine in the wealth corner of your home (furthest rear left hand corner). A geode is splendid but if you can only afford a single point, it will still draw wealth to you in all its forms.

Pessimistic/Cynical
If pessimism is your problem, a glinting, glitzy Sunstone is your answer. Encouraging optimism and enthusiasm, Sunstone switches to a positive take on events. Even the most incorrigible pessimist responds to Sunstone. It is particularly beneficial when worn in the sun as this doubles its effect.

Crystal Remedies

Crystal remedies are an excellent way to use the healing power of crystals, and several crystals can be combined provided you dowse to check compatibility. The remedies can be gently rubbed on the skin or sprayed into a room or added to a glass of water and sipped, or taken from a dropper bottle.

Crystal remedies are made by transferring the subtle energies and minute homeopathic concentrations of the mineral constituents of the crystal into water, which then stores the vibrations and transfers them to the physical or subtle bodies in exactly the same way that a homoeopathic remedy works.

The remedy is bottled and a preservative – brandy, vodka or cider vinegar – added. Some stones, such as Malachite, Sulphur, Galena and Vanadinite, are toxic and remedies from these stones need to be made by an indirect method by putting the stone into a bowl that stands within a bowl of spring water in sunlight that transfers the vibrations without transferring any of the toxic material from which the stone is formed. If in doubt, make the remedy by the indirect method, which is also suitable for fragile or layered stones.

For short-term use, a non-toxic crystal can be placed into a glass of water to be sipped every few minutes or rubbed on the affected part. An excellent ‘emergency remedy’ for shock or trauma can be made from Rhodonite and Quartz. If a dropper bottle has been made, drop seven drops under your tongue at regular intervals until the symptoms or condition ceases. Remedies can also be applied to the skin, either at the wrist or over the site of an injury or pain, or added to bath water.

If a spray bottle is made, spray all around the aura or around the room. This is particularly effective for clearing negative energies, especially from a sickroom or an electromagnetically or emotionally stressed place.

MAKING A CRYSTAL REMEDY

All you need to make a crystal remedy is an appropriate crystal, cleansed and purified, one or two clean glass bowls, spring water and a suitable bottle in which to keep it (coloured glass is preferable to clear as it preserves the vibrations better). Remedies can be made by the direct or indirect method. Spring water should be used rather than tap water that has chlorine, fluoride and aluminium added to it. Water from a spring with healing properties is particularly effective.

Direct method
Place enough spring water in a glass bowl to cover the crystal. Stand the bowl in sunlight for several hours. If the bowl is left outside, cover with a glass lid or clingfilm to prevent insects falling into it. The bowl can also be left overnight in moonlight.

Indirect method
Place the crystal in a small glass bowl and stand the bowl within a large bowl that has sufficient spring water to raise the level above the crystal in the inner bowl. Stand the bowl in sunlight for several hours. (If the bowl is left outside, cover with a glass lid or clingfilm.) The bowl can also be left overnight in moonlight.

Bottling and preserving
If the remedy is not to be used within a day, top up with two-thirds brandy, vodka or cider vinegar to onethird remedy, otherwise it will become musty. This makes a ‘mother remedy’ that can be further diluted. To make a small dosage bottle, add seven drops of the mother remedy to a dosage bottle containing two-thirds brandy and one-third water. If a spray bottle is being made, add seven drops of mother remedy to pure water if using immediately. For prolonged use, vodka makes a useful preservative as it has no smell.

Frequently asked questions:

Do crystals have the same effect on everyone?
No. Not every crystal will have the same effect on everyone who uses it. Certain stones have a finer vibration than others, particularly the more recent discoveries such as Petalite, Azeztulite or Shattuckite.

These finer-vibration stones tend to work on the subtle bodies that surround the physical body and may be too strong for some people, taking them too quickly to a different level. They can also be unsuitable for very earthy people who fear being shaken loose from their bodies.

Similarly people who fear their own inner emotions may find a stone like Obsidian very hard to handle because it rapidly brings blocked feelings up for examination whereas someone who is used to inner work will handle it without a problem.

Physical bodies themselves have different kinds of vibrations. If someone has regularly practised yoga, tai chi, healing or meditation, for instance, their vibrations will be more ethereal than someone who has done no spiritual work at all; and habitual attitudes and emotions profoundly affect the physical body.

So, different crystal vibes suit different body types. The easiest way to find exactly the right stone for you is to dowse, either with a pendulum or by finger dowsing.

To finger dowse, hold the thumb and first finger of your right hand together to form a loop. Lock the thumb and finger of your left hand through this loop to make a ‘chain’. Ask your question clearly and unambiguously – you can speak it aloud or keep it within your mind. For instance, you could ask: “Can I combine Ruby with Malachite?” “Is this is the most beneficial stone for me to use?” “Would this stone be better than that stone?” Now pull gently but firmly. If the chain breaks, the answer is ‘no’. If it holds, the answer is ‘yes’.

Sitting comfortably in an upright chair, close your eyes and establish a gentle breathing rhythm. Encase yourself in a Mantle of Light to protect your energy. Take your attention down to the base of your spine. Visualise a whirling catherine wheel of energy cleansing and purifying the chakra, and then see shields closing over the spot (use your hands over the chakra if this helps).

Practise opening and closing these shields until it becomes automatic. You’ll be able to sense within your body as the chakra opens and closes. Now take your attention to the sacral chakra just below your navel. Picture the whirling catherine wheel of energy and then close the shields.

Practise opening and closing this chakra until it becomes automatic. Now take your attention to your solar plexus and once more visualise the chakra open with its whirling catherine wheel of energy, and then close it off with the shields. Move on up to the heart chakra, opening and closing it a few times. (You may also be able to sense the higher heart chakra, in which case practise opening and closing this as well.)

Now take your attention to your throat and check this chakra. Open and close it before moving up to the brow chakra (above and between your eyebrows), and finally move to the top of your head for the crown chakra.

Once you’re confident you can open and close the chakras at will, practise running your mind up and down your spine to assess the state of your chakras. Before you bring your attention back into the room, take your mind to the ground underneath your feet. A short distance below your feet is the earth chakra. Sense whether this is open or closed and practise shutting it. (This is useful if you’re in an area of environmental or geopathic stress.)

Before completing the exercise, make sure your earth chakra is open and functioning well. Bring your attention fully back into the room. Then stand up and feel your feet firmly on the floor.

Have a good stretch and breathe deeply to ground yourself once more. If you find visualisation challenging, use a clear quartz crystal in a circular motion to cleanse each of your chakras and then close it by holding your hand over the chakra for a few moments. You can also use coloured crystals: brown for the earth, red for the base, orange for the sacral, yellow for the solar plexus, green for the heart, pink for the higher heart, blue for the throat, indigo for the third eye and purple for the crown. White stones cleanse the higher crown chakras.

You can also 'crystallise' the outer edges of the mantle for additional protection. Simply visualise
yourself standing inside a large, hollow, crystal that is filled with light. Subtle leeching of energy, and hooking into your emotions, often takes place through the spleen – located on the left side of your body just forward from the base of your armpit down to your waist.

The spleen can easily be protected with a pyramid. Picture the pyramid in place before you go out into the world and especially if you feel drained or if you become aware of a tugging sensation beneath your armpit or a dull ache around your ribs.

Starting from a point just in front of and below your armpit, imagine a pyramid extending forward to your waist and backwards to the centre of your back. This pyramid can be any colour you wish. Practise these protective measures before you need them so that they are instantly available and remember, like attracts like so banish fear from your mind and you’ll always be surrounded by good vibes.

Depressed
Beautiful pink Kunzite is an excellent stone for depression as it actually contains small amounts of lithium, (used in conventional psychiatric medicine). Kunzite lifts the spirits, releases emotional baggage and removes obstacles to your path. Place in your pocket and handle frequently, or make a gem elixir: place the crystal in a glass bowl in spring water and leave in the sun for l2 hours. Bottle and sip frequently.

Lonely

Many crystals are fragile or friable. Crystals that are layered or clustered can separate. Crystals such as Selenite are water soluble. Polished surfaces or natural points are easily scratched or damaged. Tumbled stones are more durable. Endless hours turning in fine grit gives them a tough surface, You can keep tumbled stones together in a bag but other crystals should be kept apart.

When not in use, wrap your crystals in a silk or velvet scarf. This prevents scratching and protects the crystal against absorbing foreign emanations. Crystals need to be cleansed when you buy them and after wearing or using for healing. Crystal remedies are an excellent way to use the healing power of crystals, and several crystals can be combined provided you dowse to check compatibility. The remedies can be gently rubbed on the skin or sprayed into a room or added to a glass of water and sipped, or taken from a dropper bottle.

Crystal remedies are made by transferring the subtle energies and minute homeopathic
concentrations of the mineral constituents of the crystal into water, which then stores the vibrations andtransfers them to the physical or subtle bodies in exactly the same way that a homoeopathic remedy works.

The remedy is bottled and a preservative – brandy, vodka or cider vinegar – added.
Some stones, such as Malachite, Sulphur, Galena and Vanadinite, are toxic and remedies from
these stones need to be made by an indirect method by putting the stone into a bowl that stands within a bowl of spring water in sunlight that transfers the vibrations without transferring any of the toxic material from which the stone is formed. If in doubt, make the remedy by the indirect method, which is also suitable for fragile or layered stones.

For short-term use, a non-toxic crystal can be placed into a glass of water to be sipped every few minutes or rubbed on the affected part. An excellent ‘emergency remedy’ for shock or trauma can be made from Rhodonite and Quartz. If a dropper bottle has been made, drop seven drops under your tongue at regular intervals until the symptoms or condition ceases.

Remedies can also be applied to the skin, either at the wrist or over the site of an injury or pain, or added to bath water. If a spray bottle is made, spray all around the aura or around the room. This is particularly effective for clearing negative energies, especially from a sickroom or an electromagnetically or emotionally stressed place.

MAKING A CRYSTAL REMEDY

All you need to make a crystal remedy is an appropriate crystal, cleansed and purified, one or two clean glass bowls, spring water and a suitable bottle in which to keep it (coloured glass is preferable to clear as it preserves the vibrations better). Remedies can be made by the direct or indirect method. Spring water should be used rather than tap water that has chlorine, fluoride and aluminium added to it. Water from a spring with healing properties is particularly effective.

Direct method
Place enough spring water in a glass bowl to cover the crystal. Stand the bowl in sunlight for several hours. If the bowl is left outside, cover with a glass lid or clingfilm to prevent insects falling into it. The bowl can also be left overnight in moonlight.

Indirect method
Place the crystal in a small glass bowl and stand the bowl within a large bowl that has sufficient spring water to raise the level above the crystal in the inner bowl. Stand the bowl in sunlight for several hours. (If the bowl is left outside, cover with a glass lid or clingfilm.) The bowl can also be left overnight in moonlight.

Bottling and preserving
If the remedy is not to be used within a day, top up with two-thirds brandy, vodka or cider vinegar to one third remedy, otherwise it will become musty. This makes a ‘mother remedy’ that can be further diluted. To make a small dosage bottle, add seven drops of the mother remedy to a dosage bottle containing two-thirds brandy and one-third water. If a spray bottle is being made, add seven drops of mother remedy to pure water if using immediately. For prolonged use, vodka makes a useful preservative as it has no smell.

The Sex chakra is the energy center that controls your passions, your sexual needs, and the abundance that you allow into your life.

Now if you are not in fine tune with your body this topic may not concern you, but it seems to me that many of my clients really are attracted to one or more types of rocks/crystals without knowing that these stones are healing some aspect of their being.

Personally, I have always loved brown Tiger eye. One necklace in particular (my only tiger eye necklace) is very special to me. Each time I wear it I have a powerfully great day. I never made the connection until I became a naturopath and read about crystals about three years into my studies. Now I wear that necklace every day (so every day is awesome!)

Here are a few of the most common stones that come up in my practice:

Do you love Turquoise? Turquoise is known as a healing stone throughout the world. It protects and balances the spiritual and physical bodies. It also dissipates negativity.

I once did a medical intuitive exam on a sick plant. I asked the plant if it needed any treatment outside the normal—which for it—was more humidity. It “told me” that it wanted some Green Tourmaline. “What’s this bizarre treatment?” I thought. I went home to look it up in “Love is in the Earth” by Melody. The answer? Green Tourmaline is the healing stone of the plant world! I advised she get a crystal of it and make a gem elixir and then put several drops of the elixir into the water she used to feed her plant with. Now I know that you can just put a piece of the crystal in the jug of water you use on the plant and put it out into the sunshine to “charge the water.”

Checking back about five weeks later I asked her how the plant was doing. She was ecstatic. “It’s great! It even has five oranges on it now and it is so much happier.” She said.

There are many types of Quartz crystals and each does something different.

Rose Quartz, a pink stone, is the stone of love, peacefulness, forgiveness, self-love and emotional balance. It soothes and warms the heart center. It is a great stone for emotional healing, loss, stress, hurt, fear, low confidence, resentment and anger.

I have a friend, Jim Johnson, a Reiki Master who used reiki powered crystal wands to do reiki treatments and it is very effective. He uses all kinds of crystals, but his favorites are clear quartz enhanced crystals.

I’ve noticed a lot of people wearing Amber these days. Why is that? Amber is ancient petrified resin, possibly from pine trees. It actually has an electromagnetic field. It opens the solar plexus chakra (stomach/digestion) and is used for mental clarity, mood balancing, confidence, stomach anxiety and cellular regeneration. It helps align the mental and emotional bodies. Amber is excellent for detoxification and protecting us from radiation (a good one to wear if you work a lot in front of your computer like I do).

What’s the best choice in crystals for low energy? Carnelian. I love this stone. It’s a pretty orange color and is related to Jasper. It helps us with confidence, boldness, initiative, and assertiveness. Carnelian helps us get in touch with our feelings as well. It also warms and cleanses the blood and kidneys while stimulating passion and sexuality. If you are attracted to the stone, you should put a little piece of it into your pocket and carry it with you. I’ve noticed many men over the age of 50 need this stone.

One book I would highly recommend for the healing properties of crystals is Love is in the Earth by Melody. My favorite place to shop for crystals is in Spokane, WA and is called Wonders of the World. They have just about everything you could want…even crystals from other planets like Moldavitewhich draws you closer to your extraterrestrial roots. . .if you've got them!

Oh, one thing about crystals. Anything ending in ITE signifies some kind of healing crystal. And Edgar Cayce, the Sleeping Prophet, always recommended that the stone or gem be larger than two carats (a crystal necklace is very effective) and be placed directly on the skin for best results in manipulating your body’s energy field.

The New Age should also be called The Stone Age, because along with aromatherapy, healing with the vibrations and frequencies emitted by crystal stone is at the crux of the movement.

Below I have listed seven popular crystal stone that also correspond with the divine energies of the Seven Archangels. I will do another article, in the near future that deals with inexpensive semi-precious stones, but chances are that many of you own jewelry already set with the following crystal stone.

If you don't own any crystal stone you can obtain inexpensive, raw, unpolished in stores or on the Internet. It is believed that crystals and stones possess powerful healing energy. This belief is called metaphysics; a philosophy that deals with the first principle of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time and space (abstract theory or talk with no basis in reality). Yet crystals have been used since the beginning of civilization, even being referred to in the Bible.

We are drawn to crystals and stones not only for their energy but for their magnificent beauty. Several books have been written on the subject so I won't attempt to list them all but rather list some of my favorite and most popular, along with their uses.

Crystal Uses

- Feng Shui is a Chinese healing art form that uses crystals to direct the flow of energy (or chi) within your home. By hanging crystal spheres in certain areas, you can slow or scatter the energy flow.

- Different crystals and stones are also used to heal the body by placing them on chakras. Each chakra has a corresponding color and therefore the color of the stone should coincide with the chakra color. Stress can clog your chakras, slow or stall energy flow, which in turn causes disease in the body.

- Tonics or elixirs are also made using specific crystals and stones to heal the body. These "mineral waters" contain the essence of the energy of the crystalline form from which the water is then fortified.

- For centuries people have adorned themselves by wearing crystals and stones. By wearing or keeping crystals in your environment, you can charge your aura (the energy field that surrounds you). Awakening and Cleansing Your Crystals

Since ancient civilization, tribal ceremonies involved the activation of crystals. If you lived by the sea, crystals were cleansed in the water. If not, they were awakened by placing them in the Sun or Moon light for several hours. Still today, we can use these methods to “recharge” our stones.

- Leave them out doors during a new Moon.

- Soak in sea salt for about 6 hours.

- Some even bury their crystals in the Earth during a new Moon.

My fascination with crystals and stones began many years ago when I started my research into alternative healing for some of my own ailments. Today, because of my fascination, I am surrounded by stones in my home... every room has at least one stone. The Base Chakra is the center for vitality and energy, this centre is our link with nature and the planet Earth. We are grounded through the Base Chakra and it’s the connection between the earth and our physical body.

It deals with all issues of a physical nature - the body, the senses and sensuality, aggression and self-defense. Basic instincts of survival, the instinct of hunting for food, protecting oneself and one's loved ones. It is the association of the base chakra with this fundamental instinct of self-preservation that gives it a quality of the will to live. Because it relates much to our physical existence one can understand why it is described as the chakra where Spirit and matter meet. Spirit and matter must meet for there to be physical manifestation or existence.

Within the Etheric body there is an energy flow between the lower and higher charkas. The lower charkas are those residing beneath the diaphragm and the higher chakras are above. There is a corresponding higher chakra for each lower chakra, and transference of energy from the lower to higher chakra. The base chakra transfers energy to the crown chakra. When the chakras are in balance the colours should be vibrant.

The Base Chakra is associated with security and our sense of smell willpower motivation and intent. To help the crystals to keep your Chakras balanced you can also use exercise, yoga, and massage along with your crystals the effects of which are very beneficial.

Other things can cause the Base Chakra to become out of balance such as difficult situations like moving house, a new job and health problems. When your Base Chakra is not balanced you can become disorganized or unfocused, feel disconnected or experience anxiety restlessness even fear.

A diamond ring is a symbol of love, devotion and a promise of a marriage and happiness. And it also probably one of the most memorable moments in someone's life.

The sparkle of the diamond will take your breath away after viewing your engagement ring for the first time and the many times afterwards. An engagement ring is something that will be worn for many many years and possible handed down to the next generation. So keeping it clean and free from scratches is a must.

Because your engagement ring will be worn everyday products such as hair styling sprays, hand lotions and other house hold products can cause the sparkle to fade and the ring its self look dull so it's best that you keep the ring away from these products as much as you can. Over time you may find that gunk and grime will build up behind the diamond making it look dirty and unattractive but don't worry it can be cleaned. right from the comfort of your own home.

Although diamonds are one of the hardest substances known to man they are often coated in a special substance to protect them and to keep them shining. Using abrasive substances and by brushing the diamond with something coarse could potentially remove this protective coating making the ring more susceptible to dirt and grime.

There are many products you can buy to clean your diamond engagement ring however this is not always needed. Although most of these products are cheap why waste money on them if you got other products that do the same thing laying around the house.

Steps on Cleaning

First remove the ring from your finger find a small bowl and fill it with warm water and some mild dish washing liquid, place your diamond ring in the solution and leave to soak for a few minutes, 2-3 minutes should be fine, but if using a not detergent soap you should let the ring soak for 10 minutes.

Remove the ring from the water solution and use a very soft brush to gently remove and dirt that is visible. Never use something that hard bristles as this can damage and scratch the ring setting, I find babies toothbrush works fine as the bristles are soft and the head is small enough to get into tight cracks. If you don't have a baby toothbrush a eyeliner brush should be able to get the job done.

Once you have removed any debris and dirt place the ring back in the water to give it a final clean. Remove the ring and rinse it well with warm water then dry the ring with a lint free cloth.

If you are cleaning by the sink make sure that you cover the drain to avoid dropping and losing your ring in the drain. If you find that there is still some dirt or grim left on the ring try using a wooden tooth pick to gently easy it away then rinse again and pat dry with a lint free cloth. Don't press to hard with the toothpick though or else you might have small pieces of wood stuck in between the ring.

If you do decide to use a chemical solution to clean your ring and your ring contains more than one type of gem stone, always use the solution that is designed for the less durable stone or you could end up damaging the stone with the more abrasive and/or acidic solution.

The best way to keep you rings and jewelry clean and looking good is

*Remove them or wear protective gloves when you are using products that can damage them or working around the house.

* Keep you diamonds and pearls separate, as that diamond can scratch that pearl necklace.

* IF you can't keep jewelry separate wrap pieces of jewelry in velvet, paper, or silk.

* To reduce greasy build-up on diamond jewelry dip it in plain alcohol or vodka before soaking.

How To Tell Whether A Crystal Needs Charging?

Whenever you acquire a new crystal, it should always be cleansed. All sorts of impressions will have been made on it between the time it was mined and the time it came into your ownership.

This unwanted energy isn’t necessary negative, although some of it may be. Even if there’s no negative energy within your crystal, it’s important that it’s tuned in to you and you alone. Only then can you endow the crystals with your own personal energy.

Now dip the pendulum in cold water the same number of times you moved it over the crystals and shake dry. Move the crystal pendulum over the crystals again, for the same number of times, but now in a clockwise direction. The first passing will cleanse them - the second passing will empower them.
Cleansing with Earth Energies
If you’re close to place where earth energies are strong, this is a good choice. Such places include stone circles, burial mounds and fairy hills. If it feels charges with positive energy, it’s probably a good place. Find a flat stone and lay your crystals on it. If a flat stone isn’t available, lay the crystals at the foot of a tall, pointed stone. Leave the crystals for 30 minutes while the earth cleanses and recharges them.
Cleansing With Nature
Leave your crystals in moonlight for 24 hours, or in a rainstorm for 5-10 minutes. The day of full moon is the best time for cleansing crystals in this manner.
Using Amethyst
Wrap your crystals in a smooth cloth along with a piece of unpolished amethyst. Leave the crystals in a dark place for 24 hours to recharge.

Clean ‘busy’ crystals at least once a week. If you consult your crystal pendulum daily, it’s best to have two so that there’s always one to use while one’s being cleansed. The same goes for stones used in crystal healing.

It isn’t difficult and we owe it to our crystals. After all, they rarely refuse to work for us.

Citrine, which is commonly dubbed as a gold topaz, is the most valuable form of quartz (although other forms of quartz such as red brownish quartz, and radiant yellow quartz are more sought after). This is because over the years, citrine has taken over topaz in both its name and use. topaz is a superior gem compared to citrine, however, the former is too expensive for general use. In reality, citrine has very little in common with real topaz, except for a few similarities in color. Citrine gets its name for the color yellow, and thus it is yellow quartz. Citrine is derived from the old French word “citrin,” which means lemon.

Yellow quartz does exists in nature although very rarely. It forms in places where Amethyst formations are near natural heat sources like deep in the earth’s crust. The synthetic production of citrine is also based on this. Amethyst is heated at 878F, although oftentimes heating manually may not always be uniform, thus the process cannot be perfected unless practiced thoroughly, which is why there are some occurrences of combined purple and yellow colors resulting from it. This form of quartz is called ametrine. Synthetic citrine is distinguishable for genuine citrine due to some burnt streaks, or in some cases some red tints left behind while heating. Genuine quartz is paler in color, and is usually dull and cloudy.

As mentioned, citrine is substituted for topaz. In this aspect, citrine has been known by many names like gold topaz, Madiera topaz (genuine Madiera citrine is valued very highly on its own), Brazilian topaz, and citrine topaz. Because of this connection, citrine and topaz have shared the role of being birthstones for November. Citrine is, of course secondary to topaz. Both stones are also believed to have healing powers.
